Happy belated Valentine’s Day! I hope your day was filled with lots of love…and candy! I spent my day with my mother and darling fiance. It was filled with flowers, chocolate, take-out and laughter…so nice!
Since the holiday of love is officially over, I can post the card I made for my hunny bunny. So quick and easy and it’s one-of-a kind…I love it!
I started by designing the heart and sentiment in Silhouette Studio making sure it was sized to fit my card. Since I wanted to watercolor the heart, I decided embossing would be the best way to go. Embossing makes thing so easy since it resists the color and I didn’t have to worry about painting within the lines. I used the Silhouette pen holder and a clear Ranger embossing pen to sketch the design on white cardstock. Watercolor paper would have been ideal but I HATE that all my watercolor paper has a yellow tint. My next Simon Says Stamp order will definitely have white watercolor paper.
After my design was sketched out, I embossing using Stampendous Stamp-n Stuff White Pearls embossing powder. I had this embossing powder sitting in my stash forever but when I heated it, it turned a semi-transparent yellowish color. Does embossing powder go bad? Do they still make this brand? (Note to self…add white embossing powder to craft NEED list.) Next, I watercolored the heart using Distressed inks. I wanted to make sure the card was “manly” so I decided on Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean.
Now…time to put it all together! I used a piece of pattered paper from the Pink Paislee “Pen Pals” paper pack and mounted it on a a plain white 5.5″ x 4″ card. After the heart was dry, it was cut down to 3.75″ x 3.75″ and the edges distressed with a pair of scissors. Using foam tape, I mounted the heart to the right on the card giving it some dimension. Cutting a teeny, tiny slit in the top of the card let me wrap twine around the card and secure it with a knot. Using the Simon Says Stamp “Paper Hug” stamp set, I stamped the heart cluster on a scrap piece of the patterned paper in Simon Says Stamp Island Blue dye ink and fussy cut a bunch. Then I attached clusters of 3 hearts with Ranger multi matte medium and gave them some dimension and gloss with Ranger glossy accents.
On the inside of the card, I stamped the greeting from the Simon Says Stamp “Paper Hug” stamp set using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. Then I attached one of the hearts I fussy cut earlier on top of the heart on the greeting to give it some color. And viola…Done! 🙂
I hope you like this card. If you use it as inspiration for one of your projects, I’d love to see it! As always, post your link in the comments below so I can have a look.
Until next time…
