With Christmas around the corner and recent personal experience, I’ve been thinking about how mental, physical and financial problems bear down heavy on many…especially this time of year. For most, it is a time of cheer, laughter, and joy but, for many, it isn’t. Typically, people focus on acts of giving during the holidays…giving gifts, giving money and giving time. This may not be possible for everyone. So why not try acts of being…being patient, being kind, being compassionate and being understanding. Studies have found that being kind not only makes the recipient feel good, it improves the giver’s stress levels as well as mental, emotional and physical health. Acts of kindness are also found to be infectious and result in a kindness chain reaction. It’s a win win!

The photo used for the December free printable calendar was taken June 2014 in historic downtown St. John’s, NL, Canada. “The Battery” is located beneath the steep slopes of Signal Hill National Park and has quite the history. Once known as a fishing community, it played an important role in the defense of St. John’s against the French in the 17th century and again during both World War I and World War 2. Things may have changed over the years, however, “The Battery” remains very much a treasure. The wonderful mix of colorful houses and the ocean within reach is…well…spectacular.
